And in this particular book, he does so by choosing a seemingly unusual protagonist named Dor, the inventor of the world's first clock who goes on to become Father Clock.
While Dor may be blessed by God, he isn't excused for his sins and is banished to a cave for six thousand years where he is forced to listen to voices of people asking for time. He can only be purged when he teaches two earthly humans, Victor and Sarah, the true meaning of time.
As the novel shuffles between the past and the present, Albom runs several parallel character story lines along the way. Giving us various perspectives of time, from its creation, use and abuse to how the importance of it varies from person to person, Albom manages to question the relevance of man's obsession with measuring every second of every day.
His fairytale approach to the real world ends up creating an uplifting moral tale that inspires readers to take a more meditative approach to a fast-paced world.
