From @washingtonpost: Youth climate activist Greta Thunberg chastized global leaders Tuesday for failing to meet funding pledges and for delivering too much “blah blah blah” as climate change wreaks havoc around the world.

“This is all we hear from our so-called leaders: Words,” Thunberg said. “Of course we need constructive dialogue, but they have now had 30 years of blah, blah blah. And where has this led us?”

Thunberg spoke at the three-day Youth4Climate summit in Milan, which will send its recommendations to a major United Nations climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland in November. But participants are demanding more accountability from leaders and a bigger official role for young people.

“They invite cherry-picked young people to pretend they are listening to us,’’ Thunberg said. “But they are not. They are clearly not listening to us. Just look at the numbers. Emissions are still rising. The science doesn’t lie.

“Leaders like to say, ‘We can do it.’ They obviously don’t mean it. But we do,” the Swedish activist said.

As the result of a powerful collaboration between @rewild, @Coldplay and @glblctzn, governors from three of Brazil’s Amazonia states (Para, Amapa and Amazonas) are committing to critical conservation and climate goals for one of our planet’s irreplaceable places: the Amazon rainforest.

The commitments vary and include moving away from the use of fossil fuels as an energy source, creating new protected areas and strengthening the management of established protected areas, and supporting Indigenous communities. Formally announced today at #GlobalCitizenLive, these actions will not only benefit Amazonia, but all life on Earth.

Congrats and thank you to @waldezgoesoficial, @wilsonlimaam and @helderbarbalho for their commitment to protecting and restoring our planet, and to Pará’s State Secretary for Environment and Sustainability José Mauro de Lima Ode Almeida for representing Amazonia at today’s Global Citizen event.
