The historic SB127 bill in Utah that was signed into law last month became enforceable this week, and I’m so happy to be a part of the first step to creating systemic change!! ✊🏼 This law finally protects thousands of youth in residential care from cruel punishments and treatments, like seclusion, strip searches, chemical and peer restraint and more. It also ensures youth have unmonitored communication with their families and prevents gender-based discrimination in these facilitates. I am working with my impact team and everyone at #BreakingCodeSilence to keep pushing until this issue and more protections reach the federal level. We have some amazing partner organizations that are joining our movement that I will be sharing more details on soon. Looking back at my time at Provo Canyon, I am so proud to be using my voice today to stop child and teen abuse from ever happening again for future generations. ❤️ #ISeeYouSurvivor #Justice #Impact

The one thing I am most proud of in 2020, actually in my entire life is my documentary #ThisIsParis 😍🎥 @AlexDeanDirector. It was the first time in my life where I was truly myself and told my real story. It was so difficult to be so vulnerable and honest about so many traumatic experiences I went through in my life. But I am so proud that I did. From me being honest and telling my story has caused such an important movement that needed to happen. Thousands of other survivors have said that me speaking out helped them process what happened to them, it opened up conversations with their loved ones about the experience they suffered, it validated their experience and they finally felt heard and respected.
And these places and people who have been abusive to children are being called out and held accountable for their actions. Now I have a true mission in life to use my voice and my platform to help put an end to the abuse that myself and so many other children have had to endure. And I no longer feel alone and have a whole community and family of survivors who are some of the most brilliant, courageous, strong and resilient people I have ever met. I love you all and thank you for all you love and support. These have been the most empowering moments of my life and I will not stop until change occurs. #iSeeYouSurvivor #BreakingCodeSilence. 🙌 Click link in my bio to watch my story #ThisIsParis ❤️🎥 Please let me know your thoughts on my film in comments section. 🙏❤️

These photos were taken when I was 18 and had recently came home from the horrible experiences I went through at #ProvoCanyonSchool. I can see the pain in my eyes. I was so traumatized that I pretended everything was okay, trying to block out the painful memories. 🥺 Looking at this now, I know that the teen me would be so incredibly proud of the woman I am today. Being brave and using my voice to make a difference and save children from having to endure the abuse myself and so many others have had to go through. #iSeeYouSurvivor #BreakingCodeSilence 🙌

I was locked up at #ProvoCanyonSchool for 11 months. It was by far the most terrifying and traumatic experience I have ever been through in my life. Most of the staff who worked there were extremely abusive and got pleasure from inflicting pain emotionally and physically on myself and the other students. I endured and witnessed things that no child should ever have to see or experience. I have had severe nightmares as a result of this ever since I was a teenager. The trauma has affected me in so many ways till this day. I suffer from insomnia, anxiety, major trust issues and PTSD. I am speaking out and #BreakingCodeSilence to raise awareness and let other survivors know that they are not alone and feel safe to tell their story. I know how difficult it is but hopefully by me opening up and telling mine others will finally be believed and feel validated to tell their truth. This is not our shame, the people who should be ashamed are @nyuhsinc and the people that run and work at these places. I am so proud to be an activist and really use my voice and my platform to help make change and make a difference in the world. I just think back to when I was a little girl and just how painful and terrifying it was to be there, and I know that me back then would be so proud of the woman I am today to have stood up for myself and the other survivors. My heart breaks for anyone in there now, but Im so happy that using my voice is going to save so many children from having to go through any more torture. And I’m not going to stop until that happens. #iSeeYouSurvivor #BrealingCodeSilence 🙌
