This was such a surreal moment seeing the new bill I helped pass signed into law. The #SB127 bill will protect thousands of youth by banning cruel and unjust punishments, policies and treatment in youth facilities. I’m so grateful to see change occurring in Utah, and this is just the beginning. Thank you to Governor Cox, Senator McKell, Lieutenant Governor @DeidreHenderson, Representative Bramer and the other @UtahSenate @UtahReps officials who worked to make this bill possible. As promised, since telling my story as a survivor, I will not stop until every child is protected. No child or teen should ever have to go through any kind of abuse in one of these facilities. I’m so proud to see this bill signed into law in Utah, but our work isn’t done yet. We will be taking this issue to the FEDERAL level. I am so proud to stand up for survivors like me and I will continue to fight for all survivors until laws are enacted to protect children in every state. ♥️ #BreakingCodeSilence #SB127 #Justice

I am so proud to share that SB127, the bill I testified on behalf of has passed the Utah legislature which means it will become law! This bill protects thousands of youth in residential care from cruel punishments, strip-searches, and seclusion, bans the use of chemical restraint and peer restraint, ensures youth have unmonitored communication with their families, prohibits gender-based discrimination, creates suicide prevention policies, and more. So much of the abuse and trauma I experienced at Provo would now be illegal under this new law. When I was at Provo Canyon School, I dreamed of making a difference. The teenage version of me would be so incredibly proud to know I accomplished my goal of protecting youth who are experiencing abuse in the name of treatment. Survivors, this is a BIG step towards systemic change! Thank you @UtahSenate @UtahReps for listening to us survivors, prioritizing this issue, and taking the necessary steps to protect our future generations #SB127 #Justice #BreakingCodeSilence

The one thing I am most proud of in 2020, actually in my entire life is my documentary #ThisIsParis 😍🎥 @AlexDeanDirector. It was the first time in my life where I was truly myself and told my real story. It was so difficult to be so vulnerable and honest about so many traumatic experiences I went through in my life. But I am so proud that I did. From me being honest and telling my story has caused such an important movement that needed to happen. Thousands of other survivors have said that me speaking out helped them process what happened to them, it opened up conversations with their loved ones about the experience they suffered, it validated their experience and they finally felt heard and respected.
And these places and people who have been abusive to children are being called out and held accountable for their actions. Now I have a true mission in life to use my voice and my platform to help put an end to the abuse that myself and so many other children have had to endure. And I no longer feel alone and have a whole community and family of survivors who are some of the most brilliant, courageous, strong and resilient people I have ever met. I love you all and thank you for all you love and support. These have been the most empowering moments of my life and I will not stop until change occurs. #iSeeYouSurvivor #BreakingCodeSilence. 🙌 Click link in my bio to watch my story #ThisIsParis ❤️🎥 Please let me know your thoughts on my film in comments section. 🙏❤️

These photos were taken when I was 18 and had recently came home from the horrible experiences I went through at #ProvoCanyonSchool. I can see the pain in my eyes. I was so traumatized that I pretended everything was okay, trying to block out the painful memories. 🥺 Looking at this now, I know that the teen me would be so incredibly proud of the woman I am today. Being brave and using my voice to make a difference and save children from having to endure the abuse myself and so many others have had to go through. #iSeeYouSurvivor #BreakingCodeSilence 🙌

Today, January 11th, is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day! Join me in bringing attention to this devastating issue by participating in #WearBlueDay. Sex trafficking exists, but it is not the only type of human trafficking. Forced labor and benefits trafficking are other types of human trafficking; both involve exploitation of people for financial gain.

Breaking Code Silence goal is to help educate and bring awareness to the human trafficking atrocities taking place in the Troubled Teen Industry. From the “escort industry” who forcibly traffics children across state lines, to forced labor practices in “treatment” such as hard labor, forced employment, and exploitation of public and private funds; human trafficking in the TTI is rampant.

This Monday, January 11th, join us in bringing awareness to the trafficking of children within the Troubled Teen Industry by:

• Posting a picture of you, your friends, family, or pets wearing blue!
• Use the hashtags: #WearBlueDay #BreakingCodeSilence #BenefitsTraffickingisHumanTrafficking
• Tell us your “transport” story or forced labor you experienced in the TTI.
It’s simple! Wear blue, post a pic, use the hashtags, and let your story be heard!

To report suspected human trafficking to Federal law enforcement:

To get help from the National Human Trafficking Hotline:

I was locked up at #ProvoCanyonSchool for 11 months. It was by far the most terrifying and traumatic experience I have ever been through in my life. Most of the staff who worked there were extremely abusive and got pleasure from inflicting pain emotionally and physically on myself and the other students. I endured and witnessed things that no child should ever have to see or experience. I have had severe nightmares as a result of this ever since I was a teenager. The trauma has affected me in so many ways till this day. I suffer from insomnia, anxiety, major trust issues and PTSD. I am speaking out and #BreakingCodeSilence to raise awareness and let other survivors know that they are not alone and feel safe to tell their story. I know how difficult it is but hopefully by me opening up and telling mine others will finally be believed and feel validated to tell their truth. This is not our shame, the people who should be ashamed are @nyuhsinc and the people that run and work at these places. I am so proud to be an activist and really use my voice and my platform to help make change and make a difference in the world. I just think back to when I was a little girl and just how painful and terrifying it was to be there, and I know that me back then would be so proud of the woman I am today to have stood up for myself and the other survivors. My heart breaks for anyone in there now, but Im so happy that using my voice is going to save so many children from having to go through any more torture. And I’m not going to stop until that happens. #iSeeYouSurvivor #BrealingCodeSilence 🙌
